Any process involved in the maintenance of an internal steady-state at the level of the cell. A homeostatic process involved in the maintenance of an internal steady-state within a defined anatomical structure of an organism, including control of cellular proliferation and death and control of metabolic function. An anatomical structure is any biological entity that occupies space and is distinguished from its surroundings. Anatomical structures can be macroscopic such as a carpel, or microscopic such as an acrosome. Any process that is carried out at the cellular level, but not necessarily restricted to a single cell. For example, cell communication occurs among more than one cell, but occurs at the cellular level. Any biological process involved in the maintenance of an internal steady-state. The cellular homeostatic process by which a neuron is preserved in a stable, differentiated functional and structural state.
