A cascade of at least three protein kinase activities culminating in the phosphorylation and activation of a MAP kinase. MAPKKK cascades lie downstream of numerous signaling pathways. Any process that activates or increases the frequency, rate or extent of signal transduction mediated by the stress-activated MAPK cascade. A change in state or activity of a cell (in terms of movement, secretion, enzyme production, gene expression, etc.) as a result of a stimulus indicating the organism is under stress. The stress is usually, but not necessarily, exogenous (e.g. temperature, humidity, ionizing radiation). Any process that modulates the frequency, rate or extent of signal transduction mediated by the stress-activated MAPK cascade. Any process that stops, prevents, or reduces the frequency, rate or extent of signal transduction mediated by the stress-activated MAPK cascade. A series of molecular signals in which a stress-activated MAP kinase cascade relays one or more of the signals; MAP kinase cascades involve at least three protein kinase activities and culminate in the phosphorylation and activation of a MAP kinase. A series of reactions that occur within the cell, mediated by protein kinases, which occurs as a result of a single trigger reaction or compound. A series of molecular signals in which a stress-activated protein kinase (SAPK) cascade relays one or more of the signals.
