Interacting selectively and non-covalently with peptides, any of a group of organic compounds comprising two or more amino acids linked by peptide bonds. The selective, non-covalent, often stoichiometric, interaction of a molecule with one or more specific sites on another molecule. Interacting selectively and non-covalently with an antigen peptide, a fragment of a foreign protein derived by proteolysis within the cell. Interacting selectively and non-covalently with an antigen, any substance which is capable of inducing a specific immune response and of reacting with the products of that response, the specific antibody or specifically sensitized T-lymphocytes, or both. Binding may counteract the biological activity of the antigen.
