The removal of one or more ubiquitin moieties from a protein. A protein deubiquitination process in which a K29-linked ubiquitin chain, i.e. a polymer of ubiquitin formed by linkages between lysine residues at position 29 of the ubiquitin monomers, is removed from a protein. A protein modification process by which one or more covalently attached moieties of a small protein, such as ubiquitin or a ubiquitin-like protein, are removed from a target protein. The covalent alteration of one or more amino acids occurring in a protein after the protein has been completely translated and released from the ribosome.
