Any process that initiates the activity of inactive phospholipase D. A G-protein coupled signaling pathway that results in the activation of phospholipase D, causing an increase in cellular levels of phosphatidic acid. The series of molecular signals generated as a consequence of a G-protein coupled receptor binding to its physiological ligand. Any process that increases the frequency, rate or extent of phospholipase activity, the hydrolysis of a phospholipid. Any series of molecular signals initiated by the binding of an extracellular ligand to a receptor on the surface of the target cell.
