The determination of sex and sexual phenotype in the germ line of a hermaphrodite. A developmental process by which a progressive change in the state of some part of an organism specifically contributes to its ability to form offspring. A biological process whose specific outcome is the progression of an integrated living unit: an anatomical structure (which may be a subcellular structure, cell, tissue, or organ), or organism over time from an initial condition to a later condition. Any biological process, occurring at the level of a multicellular organism, pertinent to its function. The determination of sex and sexual phenotype in an organism's germ line. The biological process whose specific outcome is the progression of a multicellular organism over time from an initial condition (e.g. a zygote or a young adult) to a later condition (e.g. a multicellular animal or an aged adult). The events determining the germ-line sexual phenotype after the initial transmission of that phenotype to germ-line-specific information pathways. The determination of sex and sexual phenotype in a male organism's germ line. The determination of sex and sexual phenotype in a female organism's germ line. The transmission of information about sexual status, from the initial general determination, to signals specific to the germ-line. Any process that establishes and transmits the specification of sexual status of an individual organism.
