A process by which iron is solubilized and transported into a cell. A process by which iron (Fe3+) is solubilized by ferric iron-specific chelators, known as siderophores, excreted by a cell; the iron-siderophore complex is then transported into the cell by specific cell surface receptors. The directed movement of ferric-hydroxamate into, out of, within or between cells by means of some external agent such as a transporter or pore. The directed movement of substances (such as macromolecules, small molecules, ions) into, out of, within or between cells, or within a multicellular organism by means of some external agent such as a transporter or pore. The directed movement of ferric triacetylfusarinine C into, out of, within or between cells by means of some external agent such as a transporter or pore. The directed movement of iron (Fe) ions into, out of, within or between cells by means of some external agent such as a transporter or pore. The directed movement of iron chelates into, out of, within or between cells by means of some external agent such as a transporter or pore. An iron chelate is a heterocyclic compound having a metal ion attached by coordinate bonds to at least two nonmetal ions. The directed movement of ferric-enterobactin into, out of, within or between cells by means of some external agent such as a transporter or pore. The directed movement of siderophores, low molecular weight Fe(III)-chelating substances, into, out of, within or between cells by means of some external agent such as a transporter or pore. The directed movement of iron-siderophores into, out of, within or between cells by means of some external agent such as a transporter or pore. Iron-siderophores are low molecular weight Fe(III)-chelating substances in the iron-bound form.
