The process dependent upon B cell antigen receptor signaling in response to self or foreign antigen through which B cells are selected for survival. An immune response mediated by immunoglobulins, whether cell-bound or in solution. Mutations occurring somatically that result in amino acid changes in the rearranged V regions of immunoglobulins following the induction of an immune response. The appearance of immunoglobulin due to biosynthesis or secretion following a cellular stimulus during an immune response, resulting in an increase in its intracellular or extracellular levels. The process by which B cells produce antibodies with increased antigen affinity. This is accomplished by somatic hypermutation and selection for B cells which produce higher affinity antibodies to antigen. Any B cell selection process that occurs in the periphery. The appearance of immunoglobulin due to biosynthesis or secretion following a cellular stimulus, resulting in an increase in its intracellular or extracellular levels.
