The directed movement of vitamins into, out of, within or between cells by means of some external agent such as a transporter or pore. A vitamin is one of a number of unrelated organic substances that occur in many foods in small amounts and that are necessary in trace amounts for the normal metabolic functioning of the body. The directed movement of an amide, any compound containing one, two, or three acyl groups attached to a nitrogen atom, into, out of, within or between cells by means of some external agent such as a transporter or pore. The directed movement of monocarboxylic acids into, out of, within or between cells by means of some external agent such as a transporter or pore. The directed movement of carboxylic acids into, out of, within or between cells by means of some external agent such as a transporter or pore. Carboxylic acids are organic acids containing one or more carboxyl (COOH) groups or anions (COO-). The directed movement of substances (such as macromolecules, small molecules, ions) into, out of, within or between cells, or within a multicellular organism by means of some external agent such as a transporter or pore. The directed movement of biotin into, out of, within or between cells by means of some external agent such as a transporter or pore. Biotin is cis-tetrahydro-2-oxothieno(3,4-d)imidazoline-4-valeric acid; the (+) enantiomer is very widely distributed in cells and serves as a carrier in a number of enzymatic beta-carboxylation reactions.
