The asymmetric division of cells to produce two daughter cells with different developmental potentials. It is of fundamental significance for the generation of cell diversity. Any process that modulates the frequency, rate or extent of asymmetric cell division. Any process that is carried out at the cellular level, but not necessarily restricted to a single cell. For example, cell communication occurs among more than one cell, but occurs at the cellular level. Any process that activates or increases the frequency, rate or extent of asymmetric cell division. Satellite cells are quiescent adult muscle stem cells that become activated to divide and differentiate in response to muscle damage. The four rounds of incomplete mitosis undergone by the cystoblast to form a 16-cell cyst. Within the cyst, one cell differentiates into an oocyte while the rest become nurse cells. An example of this is found in Drosophila melanogaster. Any process that stops, prevents or reduces the frequency, rate or extent of asymmetric cell division. The division of the zygote into two daughter cells that will adopt developmentally distinct potentials. The process resulting in the physical partitioning and separation of a cell into daughter cells.
