Any constituent part of the Golgi apparatus, a compound membranous cytoplasmic organelle of eukaryotic cells, consisting of flattened, ribosome-free vesicles arranged in a more or less regular stack. The Golgi cisterna closest to the endoplasmic reticulum; the first processing compartment through which proteins pass after export from the ER. A large, multiprotein complex with alpha-1,6 mannosyltransferase activity, located in the cis Golgi membrane; adds mannan to N-linked glycans on proteins. The stack usually comprises cis, medial, and trans cisternae; the cis- and trans-Golgi networks are not considered part of the stack. A compartment that consists of a lumen and an enclosing membrane, and is part of an organelle.
