Catalysis of an oxidation-reduction (redox) reaction in which hydrogen or electrons are transferred from NADH or NADPH and one other donor, and one atom of oxygen is incorporated into one donor. Catalysis of the reaction: 4,4-dimethyl-9beta,19-cyclopropylsterol + 3NADPH + 3H+ + 3O2 = 4alpha-carboxy, 4beta-methyl-9beta,19-cyclopropylsterol + 3NADP+ + 3H2O. This overall reaction proceeds through a series of three successive monooxygenations of the alpha methyl group on the C4 carbon (CH3 to CH2OH to CHO to COOH). Catalysis of the reaction: 4,4-dimethyl-5-alpha-cholesta-8,24-dien-3-beta-ol + NAD(P)H + H+ + O2 = 4-beta-hydroxymethyl-4-alpha-methyl-5-alpha-cholesta-8,24-dien-3-beta-ol + NAD(P)+ + H2O.
