Any process specifically pertinent to the functioning of integrated living units: cells, tissues, organs, and organisms. A process is a collection of molecular events with a defined beginning and end. A process, occurring at the cellular level, that is involved in the reproductive function of a single-celled organism. A form of asexual reproduction, occurring in certain bacteria and fungi (e.g. yeasts) and some primitive animals in which an individual arises from a daughter cell formed by pinching off a part of the parent cell. The budlike outgrowths so formed may sometimes remain attached to the parent cell. The production by an organism of new individuals that contain some portion of their genetic material inherited from that organism. The biological process in which new individuals are produced by one or two single-celled organisms. The new individuals inherit some proportion of their genetic material from the parent or parents. A process in which two similarly sized and shaped cells are formed by the division of one cell, the process by which most bacteria reproduce.
