A process, occurring at the cellular level, that is involved in the reproductive function of a single-celled organism. The cellular process that joins two lipid bilayers to form a single membrane. The joining of two or more lipid bilayer membranes that surround a cell. During conjugation with cellular fusion, the process resulting in creating a single cell from complementary mating types. The localized remodeling and dissolution of external protective structures allow the fusion of the plasma membranes and cytoplasmic mixing. An example of this process is found in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The joining of two or more lipid bilayer membranes that surround cells, during cytogamy. A conjugation process that results in the union of cellular and genetic information from compatible mating types. An example of this process is found in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
